Introduction
In 2017, I witnessed my Grandmother struggling to place her key into her lock, as she entered her block of flats, and through her front door. She was 87 years of age, lived a happy and healthy life, and up until this point probably hadn’t thought twice about completing this ‘everyday task’. Not wishing to give up without a fight, I’d wait patiently as she’d try to locate the right key, gain a grip and then head to the lock trying to locate its entry point.
I stood patiently on a number of visits, and as I saw the process degrading, I decided to embark upon a mission to try and help, so as not to override the process, and ultimately render her helpless and unable to enter her own home.
Existing Solutions
I experimented with a number of solutions widely available on the market, key turners, key holders, and the like but none of these helped. In-fact they only made matters worse.
My experience with key turners is that, you add all your other keys onto the device, and it simply adds weight and makes it even harder to turn the keys around. This proved very difficult for my grandmother.
I also found that whilst the key turner was meant to help in turning the lock, it wasn’t overly helpful in guiding the key into the lock, and this presented a further challenge.
